10 Commandments in Order

The Ten Commandments are also known as the Decalogue, were given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai after the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt. (Old Testament)

They were inscribed on stone tablets, symbolizing a covenant between God and His people.

The commandments outline moral laws: the first four focus on humanity’s relationship with God, and the last six address human interactions. They are foundational to Jewish law, Christian ethics, and have influenced legal systems worldwide. The tablets were stored in the Ark of the Covenant and are referenced in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5

Origin

The Ten Commandments were given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai after the Israelites were freed from Egypt. As they camped near the mountain, they witnessed thunder, lightning, and the voice of God declaring His divine laws. These commandments, inscribed on two stone tablets, outlined essential moral principles, such as worshiping God alone, honoring parents, and avoiding theft, falsehood, and covetousness. Despite their sacred origin, the Israelites faltered, creating a golden calf during Moses’ prolonged stay on the mountain. In anger, Moses broke the tablets but later ascended again to receive a new set, renewing God’s covenant with His people. These commandments remain a cornerstone of faith and ethics

“You shall have no other gods before Me“
